The World Health Organization has described air pollution as a global health emergency with impacts across the world and closer to home.
In April 2023, Newark and Sherwood District Council published a report stating that in 5.3% of mortality in the district is attributable to air pollution.

The impacts of air pollution affect us at every stage of our lives and can contribute to low birth weight at the start of life, the prevalence and severity of childhood asthma and a range of health conditions in adults from respiratory conditions, through to heart health, cancer, and increased risk of dementia.

The good news is that because of the role of fossil fuels in causing air pollution, tackling the pollution crisis will also help mitigate the climate and nature crisis.
