LOCKLAND, Ohio (WXIX) – Residents living in Wyoming and Lockland were able to return home Sunday morning after a train derailed in Lockland Saturday night.
According to the Wyoming Police Department, people who lived within 500 feet of one of the derailed train cars were evacuated due to a possible hazardous spill. The City of Wyoming later confirmed that the spill was non-hazardous and residents were able to come back home.
Parks and businesses are also open again, but the road near the tracks would remain closed to vehicular traffic while repairs are happening, the city said through its text message system.
On Saturday, three train cars derailed near Wyoming Avenue at approximately 8 p.m., CSX wrote in a statement. One of the cars was carrying plastic pellets and lost some of them during the incident. Two tank cars, one empty and one loaded, were also involved, but remained secure.
