When Is Assisted Living with Memory Care No Longer A Viable Option?

THIS CHANNEL IS FOR INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY AND DOES NOT PROVIDE LEGAL ADVICE.
I often am asked if memory care in assisted living is the same as a memory care unit in a nursing facility or a nursing home. It’s not. With memory care and assisted living, you still have to be able to feed yourself. Maybe you don’t have to cut your food, but you can feed yourself. And, you’re a “one-person” assist, meaning you can stand and pivot if you’re in a wheelchair, or you just need help of one other person to get in and out of bed and into a chair. If you can’t feed yourself, and if you need “two-person” assist or a Hoyer lift to get in and out of bed, then you really need a nursing home. That’s the main two differences.
