Volunteers needed for Meals on Wheels [Video]

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, social isolation and loneliness in older adults can cause serious health risks, including dementia, but volunteers with Meals on Wheels Western South Dakota want to help prevent that.

However, with upcoming retirements and summer vacations, the group needs more help.

Meals on Wheels delivers meals Mondays through Fridays between 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. and even has frozen options for evenings and weekends. Currently, the program has 150 volunteers per month, but their goal is to reach 500.

In addition to proving a meal, volunteers provide welfare checks and companionship to the people they visit.
