Vermont unions and advocacy groups celebrate International Workers’ Day [Video]

Today is International Workers’ Day and unions and advocacy groups are holding rallies and boycotts across the world. Here in our region, people are coming together to support causes looking to improve the quality of life for many living and working here.Migrant Justice held a one-day boycott of Hannaford Supermarkets as they continued to ask the grocery store chain to join the Milk with Dignity program.The group asked the community to boycott “in solidarity with farm workers fight for Hannaford to join the Milk with Dignity program and ensure that the farms in their supply chain are respecting workers rights and dignity,” said Will Lambek, a member of Migrant Justice.Lambek said that joining the program means that the supermarket chain, would only buy dairy from farms that agree to use a specific code of conduct and set floor wages and benefits.Olga Cruz, a dairy laborer, said working on farms in …
