What’s The Purpose For Estate Planning?
Welcome to the Lawyer Minute. I’m Michael Glassford.
There are several purposes.
Today, I want to focus on, Managing Expectations.
We want to make sure that our family knows our thoughts and intentions.
And a good way to mess things up is to change the plan in the final hours and not tell anybody.
This is where we get discord and court hearings and battles. Because we simply didn’t maintain that level of expectation.
In the movie, “Knives Out,” he writes a codicil to his Will and it leaves everything to his home healthcare person.
But his family didn’t know that, they were unaware, and the fight began.
This is why we want to make sure that our estate plan is known. They don’t need to read every document but the plan needs to be known.
And we can significantly reduce conflict by doing that.
