The Jennings v Alzheimer’s

A BBC Two documentary, The Jennings v Alzheimer’s, that involved filming at the UCL Dementia Research Centre and The National Hospital filming and Rare Dementia Support members will air to mark Dementia Action Week 2024.

It focuses on the incredible contribution to dementia research made by Carol Jennings. It was through her coming forward, urging doctors to look at her family history, that led to Professor John Hardy identifying the gene mutation linked to familial Alzheimer’s disease.

The National Brain Appeal worked with UCLH and UCL to facilitate the filming at Queen Square. The programme includes interviews with Professor Hardy, Dr Cath Mummery, Professor Nick Fox and filming with colleagues at the UCL Dementia Research Centre and Leonard Wolfson Experimental Neurology Centre at the National Hospital.

This clip shows Carol’s son, John Jennings, with Professor Nick Fox. John faces an agonising decision whether to get tested for the faulty gene.
