Summer camps preparing for extreme heat later this week [Video]

BURLINGTON, CT. (WFSB) – Today is the first day of summer camp at Camp Chase

With the expected heat wave, many precautions are being taken to make sure kids are safe.

The YMCA of Greater Hartford recently trained over 200 camp counselors on how to address issues in the heat.

Counselors are making sure kids are staying hydrated and not being put in extensive physical activities. Kids will play in shady areas when they can and lots of sunblock is important.

“We have a heat protocol that we put in place at all of our camps across the scope of the greater Hartford YMCA.,” said Harold Sparrow, President and CEO, YMCA of greater Hartford.” “We have over 5,000 children in our care on a daily basis.”

We also stopped by camp Stuff-Ta-Doo in Simsbury and kids there will be getting more water breaks and more time in the pool.
