Solving the Dementia Disparity in Underrepresented Communities – Diverse VCID [Video]

Dementia is a deibilitating disease that has a profound impact on individuals as well as their families and communities. For Black and Latino Americans, who face a greater risk for dementia diagnosis, this takes a huge toll.

Diverse VCID is a study led by UC Davis as well as 16 other clinical sites alongside 11 scientific partners across the United States. The goal of the study is to understand why this disparity in dementia diagnosis occurs, and what can be done to mitigate it. The research is conducted by a diverse team of experts and through a diverse group of participants to give priority to groups like Black and Latino Americans that have been traditionally excluded from these spaces.

Ultimately, the team aims to identify a list of dementia risk factors so that any individual can meet with their provider and quickly and easily assess their risk for cognititve decline. One day, the participants of Diverse VCID will hopefully look back on their time with the study and know that they’ve helped create a brighter future for their families and communities.
