The Conference City Logistics 2024 brought together over 100 logistics, urban planning, real estate, investment, banking, and municipal professionals who engaged in insightful discussions about the future of city logistics in Bratislava. We delved into the challenges and opportunities surrounding Bratislava’s city logistics landscape, focusing on revitalising brownfield sites. City logistics is becoming an increasingly important aspect of modern cities. It is a multifaceted product with multifunctional use, good accessibility, and well-developed infrastructure.
➡️ Bratislava’s total brownfield area exceeds 5.7 million m2, according to the Bratislava City Institute.
➡️ Nearly 1.4 million m2 of this space is occupied and still in use, as per Cushman & Wakefield.
➡️ Transforming these underutilised areas into modern multifunctional complexes presents a complex challenge requiring close collaboration among stakeholders.
➡️ Motivating brownfield owners and securing active city support is crucial for successful revitalisation.
➡️ Currently, over 500,000 m2 of modern logistics spaces are either built or planned, with 50% already operational.
➡️ The logistics sector presents challenges such as land availability and the complexities of the permitting process, which can deter potential players. However, those who persevere stand to gain significant rewards due to the high demand for such spaces.
