MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Owners of Serenity Towers in East Memphis are set to answer to a Shelby County judge on Tuesday over ongoing issues about living conditions.

The hearing comes after multiple complaints, including those listed in the petition, dating back to 2020 from residents, nearby neighbors, and now Memphis city leaders.

City of Memphis leaders filed a petition last week against the owners of Serenity Towers, to have the property declared a chronic nuisance.

The city cites broken elevators, inadequate HVAC, hot water, and pest control for residents and bed bugs.

Also, more than 2,000 calls to the Memphis Police Department are listed in the petition.

Those calls were reportedly calls for assaults, arsons, burglaries, drugs and deaths reported on the property.

The owners of Serenity Towers are no strangers to Shelby County Environmental Court, making several appearances there in recent years.

The hearing will begin at 1:30 p.m.

Cases like this are also not unfamiliar in Shelby County Environmental Court.
