EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — The number of Pennsylvanians ages 65 and older is expected to double by 2040.

Despite the sharp increase in this population, labor statistics revealed from 2019 to 2022, Pennsylvania saw a 14% decrease in long-term care workers.

There are bills in both Washington and Harrisburg aimed at supporting this field. This is a growing issue across the state and country.

Lawmakers from both sides of the aisle are working to support long-term care workers for Pennsylvanians.

“We are each year becoming an older and older and older state,” said State Senator Dave Argall.

Pennsylvania is an aging state. By 2030, one in five Pennsylvanians will be 65 or older.

Senator Argall recently introduced two bills to address the quality of nursing home care.

“The whole goal is to encourage more people to seek out these jobs,” Senator Argall explained.
