RPL at Trinity: Mike Hanrahan and the Global Brain Health Institute

Mike Hanrahan came to Trinity through the RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) process. A successful musician and writer, Mike became interested in brain health after his mother’s diagnosis of dementia and his growing awareness of the power of the creative arts in dementia care. When Mike applied to the Postgraduate Certificate for Equity in Brain Health at the Global Brain Health Institute in Trinity, he had no formal third level qualifications, but he did have a long career in the creative arts and in leadership roles. His experience supported his application to the course which he now describes as ‘the best year of his life’.

Trinity is one of 14 institutions partnering on the National RPL in Higher Education Project, a collaborative initiative working to embed and expand RPL across higher education institutions. The project is funded by the Human Capital Initiative Pillar 3 (Innovation and Agility) and co-sponsored by the Technological Higher Education Association and the Irish Universities Association.

Speakers:
Mike Hanrahan, Musician, Writer and Atlantic Fellow for Equity in Brain Health;
Eoin Cotter, Programme Lead, Global Brain Health Institute, Trinity College Dublin
