Raptors’ Shepherd sees personal growth through lessons [Video]

Participating in high school athletics while attending Ridge View has taught Tatum Shepherd some valuable lessons.

Not the least of which has been the art of self reflection, which Shepherd is doing a little more these days as her senior softball season winds with the Raptors.

“My mental game has improved a lot. I think I used to be a little bit of head case, actually,” Shepherd said with a laugh. “I would get really down on myself. But softball is a game of failure, so I’ve learned how to grow by learning how to handle the losses better and celebrate the process of learning from the game.

“I’ve also realized that it’s about the journey that gets you there. Between the people you meet along the way and lessons learned, there’s way more reasons to love sports than just worrying about how well you’ll do in them.”
