SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — Dozens of racehorses from Ruidoso are being relocated to San Angelo for stabling due to ongoing fire danger in the area.
Brad Bolen, owner of Lip Chip LLC., has been coordinating temporary living conditions for workers and horses, staying in constant touch with his employees and friends in Ruidoso since Monday night.
Many volunteers have assisted in trailering the horses to Roswell, Carlsbad, and San Angelo, as well as donating funds and supplies for those who have lost their homes in Ruidoso.
“All of a sudden, we have people coming in from every walk of life, picking up horses,” said Bolen. “Yesterday, close to 1,500 horses were evacuated out of Ruidoso Downs.”
Bolen also confirmed that Ruidoso Downs is closed indefinitely due to the fire threat.
