Queen wipes tear from her eye hearing memories of D-Day veteran | UK News [Video]

Queen Camilla has been left in tears as D-Day veterans return to the Normandy beaches on the 80th anniversary of the battle.

The Queen, sat next to King Charles, was seen wiping her eye as the memories of veteran Joe Mines, 99, were read out.

Mr Mines, from Hornchurch, London, moved Camilla so much she was dabbing her eyes.

Around 50 British veterans made the journey to northern France, which is down from 255 at the anniversary five years ago.

They received standing ovations and a round of applause as they arrived in Ver-sur-Mer.

The site, which opened in 2021, pays tribute to 22,442 service personnel under British command who died on D-Day and during the Battle of Normandy in the summer of 1944.

Albert Keir, 98, from Derbyshire, smiled and waved as he was the first to be wheeled in.
