Quaker Oats pulling out of Danville Illinois [Video]

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – The Quaker Oats factory in the east central Illinois city of Danville is closing permanently, throwing more than 500 employees out of work.

The company said the factory, which operated for 65 years, would have needed enhancements to be modernized, so the difficult decision was made to shut down for good.

“We do not make this decision lightly and recognize the impact it will have on our employees, their families, and the Danville community,” according to a statement from Quaker Oats provided to local media.

Danville, once an industrial hub with a GM foundry, has seen its manufacturing base erode over the decades. It’s about 140 miles south of Chicago.
