In everyday language, the terms “Alzheimer’s” and “dementia” are often used interchangeably. However, Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia, accounting for around two thirds of all cases. The term “dementia” covers over 50 diseases in which brain function deteriorates. Due to the death of nerve cells in the brain, people with Alzheimer’s become increasingly forgetful, confused and disoriented. Personality and behavior also change as the disease progresses. Many patients become restless, aggressive or depressed. Their judgment and ability to speak deteriorate.

Although there are ways to treat the disease and its consequences, it is not yet possible to stop it. This makes prevention all the more important, as Alzheimer’s and dementia are on the rise in many regions of the world.

In this interview, micronutrient expert Dr. Heinz Lüscher talks about the activities we can do to keep our brains fit. He also explains which micronutrients can be used to optimally nourish our brain in order to prevent Alzheimer’s and dementia.
