RECOGNISING Long Covid as a disability, boosting awareness, training GPs and campaigning for more support for sufferers are among the tasks of a group dedicated to the condition.
Long Covid Advocacy Ireland is meeting with the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health today to help the estimated 350,000 people unable to shake off the Covid virus.
Many patients are not given adequate care despite symptoms ranging from exhaustion, and muscle and joint pain, to cognitive dysfunction.
Co-founder Sarah O’Connell said of Long Covid: “We are facing a crisis. A huge number of Irish people are grappling with illness, leading to extensive absences from work and school.
“The call for urgent action is loud and clear. The lack of information and awareness about this issue is alarming, highlighting a critical need to support and educate our healthcare professionals to improve outcomes.
