Ohio billionaire planning to explore Titanic wreckage [Video]

Ohio businessman and billionaire Larry Connor is reportedly planning a journey miles beneath the ocean surface to explore wreckage of the Titanic.

Connor, the founder and managing partner of Dayton-based real estate company The Connor Group, plans to take a Triton Submarines submersible to “Titanic-level depths,” he told the Wall Street Journal. Triton Submarines CEO Patrick Lahey will join Connor for the mission, with the pair set to board the Triton 4000/2 Abyssal Explorer. The submersible is capable of traveling 4,000 meters (13,123 feet) beneath sea level, which is about 200 meters deeper than the Titanic wreckage at about 3,800 meters (12,467 feet) below sea level.

The date of Connor’s deep-sea dive has not yet been announced.

“I want to show people worldwide that while the ocean is extremely powerful, it can be wonderful and enjoyable and really kind of life-changing if you go about it the right way,” Connor, 74, told WSJ.
