‘No matter how bad it feels or gets, there’s help’: UAH hosts third annual suicide prevention walk | News [Video]

Times are hard these days for some, especially those struggling with their mental health.

But, one local group wants you to know you’re not alone.

Alabama’s branch of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) teamed up with the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) to host their third annual “Out of the Darkness” Campus Walk.

Several in the Huntsville community raised more than $16,000.

That money goes toward funding scientific research and providing more programs and services to people in the community.

Mental health experts say suicide is the leading cause of death among youth ages 10 to 24.

That statistic hits close to home for Debbie Igou.

She lost her 22-year-old son to suicide nine years ago.

“His name was Nick,” Igou continued, “I remember him telling me once, he saw music in color.”

But at some point, Igou says that color turned dark.
