New consumer data privacy standards and employee paid leave benefit rules both take effect next month.

PORTLAND, Ore. — A handful of new Oregon laws are set to take effect July 1, and there are a couple that stand out for their potential to quickly have far reaching impacts for Oregonians: a new data privacy policy and an update to the state’s Family Medical Leave Act to curtail some areas where it overlaps with the newer Paid Leave Oregon program.

New laws passed with an emergency clause can take effect immediately after being signed by the governor, but the rest typically take effect at the start of the following year on Jan. 1 or halfway through the year on July 1, unless another date is specified.
