Tulane Doctors utilize early testing and prevention methods to lower rates of heart and cardiovascular diseases.

“A lot of what we do is take care of patients that have risk factors for heart disease,” says Dr. Sid Bhansali, of the Department of Cardiology.

Those risk factors include diabetes, family history, high cholesterol and high blood sugar, among others.

He says if a person in their 20s discovers they have high cholesterol, and they have a parent with heart disease, that child will be monitored more closely than the average person.

“The more aggressively and early you start treatment, the more likely you are of having adequate prevention,” says Dr. Bhansali.
