Local pharmacies filling the gap as Rite Aid continues to close stores in Ohio and Michigan [Video]

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – We are seeing the “closing soon” signs pop-up all over northwest Ohio and Michigan, although leaders with Rite Aid have not quite confirmed all the closings yet, a recent court filing confirms 27 closures between the two states.

A gut punch for long-time pharmacy customers we spoke with earlier this week.

“It’s kind of disappointing,” said one customer.

“I’m just, I’m just upset about it,” said another customer.

Looking to soften the impact, though, are local pharmacies, like Sylvania Family Pharmacy.

“Anything that we can do to make sure the community knows they’re not alone in all these closures,” said Pharmacist Katherine Sullivan. “We love to know the people in our community whether that’s the facilities we work with, the patients we know, the prescribers and doctors we know as well. We really pride ourselves on knowing everyone’s story, their name.”
