Lawmakers focus on pandemic relief money, home care [Video]

HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) – Time is running out at the State Capitol. Wednesday is the last day of the legislative session.

A priority this year was expanding paid sick time. That passed the Senate on Monday night.

Tuesday, the focus is spending pandemic relief money.

Expanding paid sick time was clearly a big priority for Democrats, but there has been some pushback.

Tuesday’s debate is on who gets pandemic relief money and home care for the elderly.

Connecticut already has paid sick time. This year lawmakers have expanded it.

The bill that passed the Senate late Monday after a lengthy debate requires all companies to offer 40 hours of paid sick time.

“Every person who is working in Connecticut deserves paid sick days. We know from the pandemic how important it was for people to be able to stay home,” said Sen. Julie Kushner (D-Labor Committee Chair).
