BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Thousands of Jehovah’s Witnesses descended on Bakersfield Friday, as they have for the last 25 years.

For five weekends this summer, Jehovah’s Witnesses will gather at Mechanics Bank Arena for their “Declare the Good News!” conventions. The three-day events are free and open to anyone who wants to attend.

“We’re here to focus upon declaring the good news. Certainly we’re living in a time where there’s very little good news,” said Garth Milam, Elder and Delegate of the convention. “But the good news of God’s Kingdom by Christ hasn’t changed. It’s a real thing that we can base our hope upon.”

Over the five conventions this summer, some 24,000 people are expected to visit Bakersfield.
