Hundreds attend first day of mayors Community Violence Intervention Summit [Video]

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – Friday marks the first day of the Community Violence Intervention Summit hosted by the mayors of Montgomery and Selma.

More than 300 people have come to Montgomery for the two-day summit. The goal is to develop community-driven solutions to reduce violent crime across Central Alabama, officials say.

The Montgomery/Selma Community Violence Intervention Summit, held at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Montgomery Hotel & Conference Center in Montgomery, brought together community leaders, activists, and those directly affected by violence.

Friday’s sessions focused on ways the community can address the impact of gun violence on families and neighbors.

Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed and Selma Mayor James Perkins hosted the event. They say this is an opportunity for people to learn more about the crime plaguing their communities and help find solutions needed to reduce it.
