Home building just got a little easier in NSW, WA, as 1.2 million new homes race begins [Video]

New rules making it easier to build more homes in NSW and Western Australia start today, as the race to construct 1.2 million new, well-located homes across Australia begins.  

Under the new planning changes, more NSW landowners can now apply to build dual occupancies and semi-detached dwellings across the state. 

In WA, planning reforms will make it easier for landowners to build a new home, extend or alter their existing house or complete smaller projects such as a patio, carport or fence. 

The changes are aimed at removing local government hurdles and streamlining planning processes to reduce the time and cost of building more homes.  

The new changes coincide with the start of the federal government’s Housing Accord target to build 1.2 million new, well-located homes over the next five years to tackle the country’s housing crisis.
