CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – The Grand Wood studio in Cedar Rapids re-opened for the season on April 6th.

Wood lived in the studio, now located on 2nd Avenue, from 1924 through 1935. He created many of his most famous paintings there, including American Gothic.

The studio is owned by the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art. People can see the studio, performance space, and living quarters, which staff say can help visitors understand Wood’s life and connection to Cedar Rapids.

“To have it here it’s a really great piece of history I believe and it just is a good connection to Iowa’s roots and what put Cedar Rapids on the whole on the map,” Marie Coffman, who works at the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art, said.

Tours of the studio are free and it will be open on weekends until December.
