High school student overcomes homelessness to earn full college scholarship [Video]

IRVING, Texas (KTVT) – A Texas high school senior is writing the playbook for his future.

Zaylin Washington is bound for college on a full academic and athletic scholarship, but what makes his story unique is the adversity he overcame to get there.

Growing up, Washington will say the odds were never in his favor.

Early life was filled with a series of upheavals for Washington, between his parents in and out of jail to a brief stint in foster care.

“At the time, I didn’t know it was broken because I thought it was me,” Washington described. “I was the issue having to go from place to place. Deep down, I was like, ‘What am I doing wrong?’”

For years at school, no one knew what he was going through.

“People would make fun of me, my clothes were ripped and too big,” Washington remembered.
