Hearing Loss & Dementia

Many people experience hearing loss as they get older, though the signs may be subtle at first (e.g., struggling to hear others during conversation, having to turn up your music, the television, or radio, or increasingly asking others to repeat themselves when talking). If you think you may be experiencing hearing loss, it is important to talk to your doctor about getting your hearing tested. Age-related hearing loss is common, and early detection can help you figure out solutions to protect your hearing before any negative effects take place. Those with hearing loss may be uncomfortable in social situations and become isolated, which can increase the risk of dementia and cognitive impairment. Remember, social engagement is of vital importance to our cognitive and mental health!
