Healthier 901: Big Brain tours provide an inside look at stroke signs and symptoms [Video]

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Memphis is on a mission to create a Healthier 901. We’re talking about Methodist Le Bonheur’s Healthier 901 Challenge!

A healthy body starts with a healthy mind. Tuesday at Methodist University Hospital, you may have noticed a Big Brain on the front lawn. That’s because May is Stroke Awareness Month.

Tuesday morning, the hospital’s stroke team offered walkthrough tours of the Big Brain to give employees, patients, and the community an inside look at how a stroke happens and the symptoms to watch for.

We learned that there are many ways we can decrease our risk of stroke by following healthy habits.

“Today, we can pick up healthier habits, eat healthy, be active,” said Dr. Balaji Krishnaiah, stroke program director at the Methodist Neuroscience Institute. “That significantly decreases your risk of having these risk factors. Or even if you have risk factors, it will be well controlled. …
