SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – State Emergency Management leaders and the National Weather Service remind you of the dangers of summer heat.
Heat and Humidity can put a lot of stress on the body. Children and the elderly are the most likely victims of heat-related illnesses, but anyone can be impacted.
Experts recommend limiting time outdoors when it gets hot. If you have to be out in the hot weather:
- Drink plenty of water
- Limit the number of alcoholic drinks
- Wear loose-fitting, lightweight, light-colored clothing
- If you have to be outside during the hottest part of the day take frequent breaks and use a buddy system to keep an eye on each other
Lindsay Turner with Cox South Hospital says it’s essential to protect yourself if you plan to be outside for a short period.
“Even if you are going to be out in the sun for 10 or 15 minutes, putting on a wide-brim hat or a ball cap of any kind will help,” said …
