The Emerald Building in Anchorage is getting a new lease on life.

The former office building in midtown has been converted into assisted living. It will be able to house up to 16 residents with folks already looking to move in.

The first floor will have a restaurant open to the public.

The higher floors will be used for assisted living and an adult day program.

“For us we really feel you don’t thrive in a system you thrive in a community. That’s what we’ve based our entire model around this building of how do we make this feel like a community people,” said Julie Drayton, manager of the Emerald Adult Day Program.

Officials are hoping to begin operations for residents this summer.
