Elder Law Hour LIVE Episode with Michael Saffy and Lyndsey Taylor

Welcome to the Elder Law Hour! We are excited to do our very first live show. My name is Emily Hicks, and I am an estate law attorney here in the Jacksonville area focusing on planning for your future, and today we are continuing to focus on dementia as we have the whole month of March.

We’re going to talk about the difference between Alzheimer’s and dementia in general, how to detect it in your loved ones, and tips and tricks to communicate with your loved one. We’re also going to dive into the process of moving a loved one into a facility…how do you know it’s time? How much will it cost you in NE Florida? What questions should you ask facilities if your loved one has dementia? How long should families expect their loved one to stay in a facility?

To help me sort through all of these questions, I have 2 guests in studio with me today….Michael Saffy and Lyndsey Taylor.

Michael Saffy is the Founder and President of SilverLink Consulting, a senior placement organization in Jacksonville, FL which serves 7 surrounding counties. A UNF graduate with a degree in International Business and Finance, Michael started SilverLink when he was just 27 years old after acting as a Business Office Manager for one of the largest Senior Living companies in the country.

He has a passion to meet the needs seniors in regards for their care, safety, and quality of life. His generosity of heart isn’t reserved for only seniors and their families. Michael has been an active volunteer with the Wildlife Rescue Coalition of Northeast Florida and has helped to save hundreds of orphaned, injured, and displaced wildlife through rehabilitation and release back into the wild. He also serves in advisory roles for the Alzheimer’s Association Executive Team, The Caregiver Coalition of Northeast Florida and other local organizations focused on the betterment of senior care in the Jacksonville area.

Lyndsey Taylor was born and raised in the Orlando area. She received a Bachelor of Science in Gerontology from the University of South Florida. She has worked in dementia clinical research and the non-profit aging world for the past several years. Having seen three grandparents through the disease, dementia and Alzheimer’s are topics very close to her heart. She joined the Alzheimer’s Association in 2022 to work to enhance Alzheimer’s care, support, and awareness in the Central Florida area.
