Green Berets from 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne) attended the Tactical Tracking Operations School (TTOS) in Wahiawa, Hawaii. TTOS is a 10-day course that begins with jungle living, field craft, and survival. The first priority in preparation for jungle warfare is acclimation. The first week in a jungle or rainforest can be difficult. During the course, Green Berets from 1st SFG(A) learned several visual tracking methods. Detecting and identifying the tracks of an enemy can help gather information and intelligence. “Observable indicators” are changes made to the natural state of the ground, sought by the combat tracker, indicating that the enemy has passed that way.
