KATHRYN Burgum, the wife of Governor Doug Burgum, has opened up about how she overcame alcohol addiction.

Burgum has long been an advocate for eliminating the stigma surrounding addiction and mental health.

The wife of the North Dakota governor revealed that she struggled with alcoholism for many years before meeting the future governor.

“I actually knew when I was in college,” Burgum told ABC in 2023.

“I would try to stop drinking, and I couldn’t. There was a two-decade struggle.”

According to Burgum, she never sought out help due to the stigma associated with illness.
