LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — June marks Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month.

Doctors say about 1 in 9 people over the age of 65 has Alzheimer’s disease.

Dr. Greg Cooper, Director of Norton Neuroscience Institute Memory Center, joined WDRB Mornings on Wednesday to talk about the disease.

They say the number of people diagnosed with the disease is increasing, as the population ages, but new treatments are helping to slow the progression of the disease.

Clinics are helping people reduce their risk of getting the disease in the first place with different types of lifestyles and exercises.

Doctors say being active mentally, physically, and socially can help reduce your risk of getting Alzheimer’s.
