Digital Desk: Black Maternal Health Week [Video]

Categories
Dementia and Alzheimer's Caregiving

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Black Maternal Health Week is from April 11 to April 17.

Every pregnancy-related death is heartbreaking and unjustifiable, especially when more than 80% of them in the United States are avoidable.

Women of color, in particular, are facing an increasingly difficult situation. Black women are reacting to the problem by campaigning for policies and practices that will ensure that everyone has a safe and healthy delivery.

These initiatives involve, among other things, increasing health insurance coverage and investing in effective policies and programs to enhance maternal health outcomes, particularly among women of color.

Monique Shaw, a senior program officer at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and Chanel Porchia, the founder and executive director of Ancient Song Doula Services, join the Digital Desk to discuss more about Black Maternal Health Week.
