CTU invites public to watch bargaining sessions with CPS [Video]

CHICAGO — For the first time ever, the Chicago Teachers Union is inviting the public to watch its bargaining sessions with Chicago Public Schools.

Ahead of Friday’s negotiations, the CTU unveiled their contract priorities on Thursday which include fixing aging infrastructures, replacing lead pipes in older buildings, and healthier lunch options.

This also includes several climate change-related initiatives like using more renewable energy.

The contract talks officially began in April when union president Stacey Davis-Gates said it would lay the foundation for the most ambitious contract proposal ever.

The union says the public will hear testimonies from parents and leaders from community groups as well.

This is the first teachers’ union negotiations

The public is invited to attend the talks which will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Marquette Elementary School in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood. But advance registration is required.

The meeting will also be streamed on YouTube through the Chicago Public Schools channel.
