CT residents with ties to Jamaica are closely watching Hurricane Beryl [Video]

(WFSB) – Hurricane Beryl is impacting the island of Jamaica and bringing with it a trail of destruction.

In Connecticut, folks with ties to the island are watching closely.

There’s a collective sense of concern and everyone watches developments closely.

People said they are doing their best to stay in contact with family members on the island.

“My mind is back home, my mind is back home,” said Shawn McDonald, Owner of the Jamaican Jerk Shack.

It’s a busy day for McDonald at his restaurant inside Hartford’s Parkville Market.

As he prepares meals, his mind is on the hurricane and how it could impact his family.

“It’s never easy in a hurricane. People die. People literally die and not everybody is equipped to handle the flood waters or the rain. Or the wind,” McDonald said.

McDonald is originally from Jamaica and has three kids on the island right now.
