Chesterfield man charged in death of elderly man in his care [Video]

Chesterfield County police on Wednesday announced charges against a suspect who they said neglected an elderly Chesterfield man in his care, ultimately leading to his death.

Theodore Brewer, 64, of Chesterfield, has been charged with murder and abuse of a vulnerable adult in connection with the December death of Henry Ransom, court records show. Ransom, then 78 and of Chesterfield, had been admitted to a hospital in October after police received a referral from Adult Protective Services related to his care, authorities said.

Ransom was showing “obvious signs of neglect” at the time of his hospitalization, police said. He died in the hospital around two months later.

Chesterfield police Sergeant Nikki Otero told the Richmond Times-Dispatch that Ransom had been bedridden. She described his injuries as “significant” and said they included bruises and bed sores “throughout his body.”
