Charleston animal shelter pushing for foster families as animal intake numbers rise [Video]

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – Animal shelter officials say animal intake increases as summer temperatures heat up.

The Charleston Animal Society is asking for more foster families to take in cats and kittens as shelter space is decreasing. Shelter officials say fostering is a critical part of their work to save animal lives by helping house and medicate animals when needed.

The shelter saw 1,000 animals come in and has fostered over 400 cats, kittens and puppies since May 1. Officials say they still have hundreds available to take home.

Senior Director of Community Engagement Kay Hyman says animals needing foster care are in different stages of life and need different levels of care.
