SPRINGDALE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Cancer patients and survivors are impacted by the financial stress that comes at the price of receiving treatment.

According to a report by the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, nearly half of cancer patients and survivors in the U.S. are buried in medical debt and nearly all were insured at the time.

The study says they carried more than $5,000 in medical debt.

“69% have carried this debt for more than a year and over a third (35%) have had medical debt related to their cancer for more than three years,” the report said.

Tiffany Rose is a two-time breast cancer survivor and the wife of state representative Ryan Rose.

She was first diagnosed in November 2020 and was able to ring the cancer bell in April 2021.

The cancer unexpectedly came back in February 2023.
