Browns announce death of mascot Swagger Jr. [Video]

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Browns announced the death of their mascot, SJ, on Tuesday via the team’s social media. Also known as Swagger Jr., after his father, Swagger, the team’s original live dog mascot, SJ was six years old.

“We are sad to announce the passing of our beloved mascot, SJ,” the team wrote in a post on X. “We are so grateful for his many years of loyal support and cherish all of the wonderful memories he helped create for fans young and old.”

The AKC pure bred bull mastiff was owned by Fred and Debby McLaughlin of Rootstown and took over as the team’s mascot after the original Swagger retired during the 2019 season.

Swagger died the following February.

SJ ran out of the tunnel before player introductions and would remain on the sideline during games as well as greet fans in the tunnel underneath the stadium.

He was also a fixture at team events and during training camp.
