Billionaire announces plans to take submersible to Titanic site after OceanGate tragedy [Video]

An Ohio billionaire has something to prove.

Larry Connor, a Dayton entrepreneur and the founder of the real estate investment firm The Connor Group is planning to take a deep-sea submersible to the Titanic.

This comes almost one year after the OceanGate vessel imploded near the site of the wrecked Titanic, instantaneously killing the five passengers aboard, including OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush.

After the implosion, the company suspended operations.

According to an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Connor is planning on plunging more than 12,400 feet to the site of the Titanic shipwreck in a two-person submersible with Triton Submarines co-founder Patrick Lahey.

It’s all in attempt to prove deep-sea travel can be “wonderful and enjoyable” when done “the right way.”

“I want to show people worldwide that while the ocean is extremely powerful, it can be wonderful and enjoyable and really kind of life-changing if you go about it the right way,” Connor told the Wall Street Journal.
