TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Big Storm Brewing is in some choppy waters. The brewery is being evicted from its Ybor City location, and a lawsuit alleges the company has ties to a troubled nonprofit.
The lawsuit ties Big Storm and its owner, L.J. Govoni to the Center for Special Needs Trust Administration in St. Petersburg.
If that name sounds familiar, it should. Florida’s Attorney General just filed suit against the center, alleging that its founder siphoned off over $100 million meant to help disabled people. The center’s founder is Leo Govoni, L.J. Govoni’s father.
The brewery has made a name for itself in the Tampa Bay craft beer scene. Owner L.J. Govoni gave 8 On Your Side a tour of their Clearwater location in 2021.
Big Storm’s Ybor location is facing eviction and will close on June 16. The landlord, Third Lake Partners, alleges Big Storm owes them nearly $400,000 in rent.
