Big plans for Ardmore community center – KTEN [Video]

ARDMORE, Okla. (KTEN) — Gyms and hallways bustling with kids is a common sight during the summer at the HFV Wilson Community Center. With building expansion on the horizon, staff hope to never leave kids on a waitlist ever again.

“With our summer camp, our waiting list is at 100 students,” center executive director JaMia Cody said. “I’m looking forward to not having to turn people away because child care is a need. Youth services are a need. Senior services are a need.”

The HFV Wilson Community Center’s trust authority has given the green light for a 10.8-million-dollar project to renovate the building and double its size.

The structure, which has been standing on Ardmore’s east main street since 1948, hasn’t received any major upgrade since a new gym and lobby was made in 2000.
