Bellevue West’s Jenkins achieves ‘surreal’ dream of winning 3 golds at Nebraska state track [Video]

Out of breath with sweat dripping from his curly brown hair, Bellevue West senior Asher Jenkins said he’d be right back.

He had business to go take care of, podiums to stand atop of.

It was audibly evident when Jenkins returned. The two medals — soon to be three — around his neck clanked together with each step he took toward the other side of Burke Stadium.

Minutes earlier, by taking the 200-meter run, he capped one of the most notable individual performances through the first two days of this year’s state track meet. One last win delivered Jenkins a triple crown. He captured the Class A title in the 100, 200 and 400.

“This has been a dream of mine,” Jenkins said. “It’s crazy. I’ve always wanted this, and it’s finally happening. It’s crazy.”

Jenkins did all of that in a little more than 24 hours.
