Arson suspected in garage fire that spread to Peoria home [Video]

PEORIA (25News Now) – The Peoria Fire Department has determined that a fire started in a garage and spread to a home just before the noon hour Thursday was intentionally set.

The fire department has listed arson as the cause of the fire at 108 East Briarwood Court, just off Knoxville Avenue. Battalion Chief Steve Rada said firefighters encountered heavy smoke and fire from a two-car unattached garage. He said the house caught fire, but no one was living there.

The garage is said to be a total loss, and damage is estimated at $75,000.

The department’s arson dog “Rocky” was brought in to assist in the investigation.

Fire crews were on the scene Thursday afternoon putting out hot spots so the garage can be demolished.
